Connect Hyperliquid
Hyperliquid connects through a wallet. There is no API key or IP allowlist. This guide covers what to prepare on Hyperliquid and how to add the account in Trade with a wallet or an existing API wallet.
Prepare on Hyperliquid
The wallet must have made a deposit on Hyperliquid.
In Hyperliquid settings, set the account mode to Unified account or Portfolio margin.
Use the main account of your main wallet. Sub-accounts and vaults are not supported.
Adding with Connect wallet needs nothing else. To add with Enter API key, first generate an API wallet on the Hyperliquid API page, authorize it with your main wallet, and save its private key.
Hyperliquid has no API key IP allowlist, so the Add account window doesn’t list an egress IP.
Account mode and position mode
The only account mode is Unified account or Portfolio margin: spot and perpetual trading share one balance, and either setting on Hyperliquid works. Under Portfolio margin, the exchange pledges eligible assets to borrow automatically, with interest, when the balance runs short. A Standard account can’t be saved. Trade doesn’t switch the account mode for you.
Perpetuals use one-way mode, with nothing to set up. Contract leverage is set in the combo, and Trade applies it on the exchange.
Enter it in Trade
In Trade, open Accounts, choose Add account, select Hyperliquid, then pick a Connection method. For the general steps, see Connect an exchange.
| Connection method | What to do |
|---|---|
| Connect wallet | Choose Connect wallet to connect your main wallet, then choose Authorize and add. Confirm each signature in your wallet as the window prompts. The window says what each step signs, how many signatures remain and any fee a step involves. No key is entered by hand. |
| Enter API key | Enter the Main wallet address and the API wallet private key. The main wallet address is the one you deposited to and hold positions with. If the window asks for an authorization, sign it with your main wallet as prompted. |
The wallet authorization does not include withdrawals, and your main wallet can revoke it at any time. A trading authorization created with Connect wallet is valid for 180 days. Once it expires or is revoked, the account can’t trade and its status shows Trading authorization lapsed. Trade sends no separate notice. Choose Reauthorize on that account to restore it. Never enter your main wallet’s private key in Trade.
Both methods also need an Account name and at least one of spot or perpetuals under Supported markets.
Common questions
“This wallet doesn’t have an exchange account yet”
Deposit to this wallet on Hyperliquid first, then connect again.
“Sub-accounts are not supported yet”
Use the main account’s API wallet, or add the account by connecting the main wallet.
The account can’t connect after saving
If you change the account mode on Hyperliquid to Standard, the account fails the next time it reconnects, and the exchange may reject orders before then. It recovers on its own once you change it back to Unified account or Portfolio margin.
