Stop and run

Stop halts a combo at once. Run starts it again from a clean state. This page explains what each one keeps, and what happens to orders and positions on the exchange after a stop or a restart.

Stop

Stop takes effect at once: the combo no longer trades and its status becomes Stopped.

Stop is always available and takes effect immediately, without waiting for the exchange to cancel orders. If a combo is in a state you can’t explain, stop it, then run it.

Stop doesn’t close positions. Open positions stay on the exchange.

Orders left on the exchange

Orders still resting on the exchange at the moment of the stop no longer belong to the combo. Trade then cancels them at the account level. Stop doesn’t wait for that.

Anything that fills before the cancel isn’t added to the combo position. The actual position on the exchange then differs from the combo position, and the difference shows up in reconciliation.

Run

After you choose Run, the combo evaluates its current parameters, combo position and market data again, and places orders when its parameters are met. It doesn’t resume orders from before the stop and doesn’t wait for old orders to be cancelled.

Run doesn’t lift reduce-only. A combo that was reduce-only before the stop is still reduce-only after it runs.

Reduce-only and resume opening

After you choose Reduce-only, the combo keeps running: it stops opening and adding, while closing, reducing, risk controls and automatic alignment continue. Resume opening lifts reduce-only, and the combo opens again when its parameters are met.

Stop keeps the combo from trading until you run it again. Setting a stopped combo to reduce-only, or resuming opening on it, only decides whether it may open on the next run. The combo stays stopped.

A combo becomes reduce-only by itself in three cases: when it is created, when the liquidation distance reaches the alert line, and when an automatic alignment starts. In each case, you choose Resume opening afterward. The exception is a new combo created automatically from a signal with Auto-open after creation on, which starts by itself.

After a server or Trade restart

Trade starts again by itself. Combos that were running continue to trade from their parameters, and stopped combos stay stopped.

A restart doesn’t resume earlier orders either. Orders still resting from before the restart that Trade can confirm as its own are cancelled; orders it can’t confirm are left alone and only watched, and an on-chain swap that isn’t confirmed yet can’t be cancelled, so Trade waits for its result. Fills from any of these orders aren’t added to the combo position, and the difference shows up in reconciliation. An automatic alignment in progress doesn’t pick up again.

The same applies when you stop or restart Trade in System maintenance, and when an update is installed: Trade doesn’t wait for trades to finish or positions to close, and earlier orders aren’t resumed after it starts again.

When there is a difference

On the Accounts page, open Reconciliation to compare the logical and actual positions, then choose one of these:

  • Calibrate combo position: the exchange is the reference. The contract legs’ combo position is rewritten from the actual position. No orders are placed. Spot and margin leg quantities aren’t changed here; use Set combo position manually for those.

  • Set combo position manually: you enter the quantity and average price. No orders are placed.

  • Small-position cleanup: when only a residual within the small-position threshold is left, the part that can be ordered is closed at market after you confirm, and amounts below the minimum order size are cleared in the record only.

  • Automatic alignment: when it is on and a contract leg holds less on the exchange than its combo position, with the difference at or above the Automatic alignment amount for 10 seconds in a row, the combo position is lowered, reduced at market where needed, and the combo becomes reduce-only.

Risk controls and What to do about a position difference alert explain each one.
