What to do about a position difference alert

A position difference alert means the position in the combo record doesn’t match the actual position on the exchange. Find where the difference came from, then choose one way to handle it.

Look at the difference

On the Accounts page, select Reconciliation and check Position difference to see which leg differs and by how much. Common sources: an order you placed by hand on the exchange, a liquidation or ADL, or an order left from before a stop or restart that filled later.

Choose one action

ActionWhen to use it
Calibrate combo positionThe exchange is the reference. The combo’s contract legs are rewritten from the actual position and no orders are placed. Spot and margin leg quantities stay the same; use Set combo position manually for those. For several combos that share an account and contract, select Calibrate combo position in the reconciliation window to handle them together
Set combo position manuallyYou want to enter the quantity and average price yourself. No orders are placed
Automatic alignmentTurn it on in Position difference protection, which opens from Automatic risk control in the combo parameters or from the reconciliation window. Difference alert must be on, and the Automatic alignment amount must be higher than the Alert amount. When a contract leg holds less on the exchange than its combo position and the difference stays at or above the Automatic alignment amount for 10 seconds in a row, the combo position is lowered, reduced at market in several orders where needed, and the combo becomes reduce-only until you resume it by hand. These trades may realize losses, slippage and fees
Small-position cleanupAvailable when only a small residual is left; the confirmation lists this time’s small-position threshold. After you confirm, whatever can be ordered is closed at market, and amounts below the minimum order size are cleared in the record only. Once every residual is cleared, the combo position is set to zero

Differences on spot and margin legs are only compared under Spot comparison in the reconciliation window: they don’t alert and aren’t covered by automatic alignment. To change them, use Set combo position manually. The Alert amount and the Automatic alignment amount apply to every combo.
