Connect Gate CrossEx
Trade uses Gate CrossEx in Cross-Exchange Mode to trade spot, cross margin and perpetuals. This guide covers what to prepare on Gate, what to enter in Trade, and how to transfer between your Gate account and the CrossEx sections.
Prepare on Gate
Enable cross-exchange trading (CrossEx) on Gate.
Set your Gate CrossEx account mode to Cross-Exchange Mode. It is the default. Split-Exchange Mode is not supported.
Create a Gate API key and enable Cross-exchange with read-write access (Cross-exchange: Read-write). To transfer funds in Trade, also enable read access for Spot/Margin and Unified Account. Leave Withdrawal off. Gate CrossEx uses a Gate API key and secret, with no passphrase.
If you set an IP allowlist on the key, add your Trade server’s egress IP addresses. The Add account window lists them under Server egress IPs. Choose Copy all egress IPs.
Account mode and position mode
The only account mode is Cross-Exchange Mode: 9 underlying exchanges share one asset and risk pool, and spot, cross margin and USDT/USDC/USD perpetual contracts use unified margin. Trade doesn’t switch the account mode for you. When you save, it verifies that the mode matches the one set on the exchange.
Perpetuals and cross margin must use Two-way positions. Trade verifies this when you save and switches it where Gate CrossEx allows. If Gate CrossEx refuses because positions or orders are open, close them, then save again.
For Binance spot and cross margin pairs traded through CrossEx, the leg’s order type can only be Market.
Contract leverage is set in the combo, and Trade applies it on the exchange.
Transfers
CrossEx is available only through the API. To move funds between your Gate account and CrossEx, or between CrossEx venues, use Transfer in Trade. It uses the API key you entered when you added the account.
| Route | Coins you can transfer |
|---|---|
| Gate Account ⇄ CrossEx Shared Margin | USDT only |
| Gate Account ⇄ CrossEx · Binance, OKX, Gate, Bybit, Deribit | Coins other than USDT |
| Between those five venue sections | Coins other than USDT |
| Gate Account ⇄ CrossEx · Hyperliquid, Lighter | USDC only |
CrossEx · Kraken holds only USDT, which counts toward the shared margin. CrossEx · Aster can’t be transferred. The transfer window lists only the coins a route accepts.
Some coins carry a transfer fee, and transfers between venues are cut to the coin’s precision. The window shows the coin’s minimum amount and estimated fee. What arrives is what Gate actually credits.
Coins in a venue section also serve as margin for the CrossEx account. Moving them out reduces margin, and Gate rejects the transfer if margin would fall short. The window shows Gate’s own message. For what each figure in the transfer window means, see Transfers, borrowing and repaying.
Borrowing and liabilities
CrossEx has no separate borrow or repay. Cross margin borrows per position: a long borrows the quote coin to buy, and a short borrows the base coin to sell. The liability sits on that leveraged position and is repaid as you reduce or close it.
A negative balance at a USDC-settled venue is also a liability. It shows under that venue section on the Assets page.

Common questions
The actual mode shows “Split-Exchange Mode”
Change the account mode back to Cross-Exchange Mode on Gate CrossEx, then save again.
Creating a combo says the pair isn’t confirmed as tradable on CrossEx
Refresh the pair list, select the pair again and create the combo.
A coin’s transferable amount is 0 in the transfer window
That amount is held as position margin. It can be moved out after you reduce or close the position. The holding is still listed.
You want to move USDC into the shared margin
The shared margin accepts USDT only. Move USDC into CrossEx · Hyperliquid, CrossEx · Lighter, or the Binance, OKX, Gate, Bybit or Deribit venue section.
You want to trade Gate’s own markets directly
Gate is a separate entry in Add account. See Connect Gate.
