Forgot your password or lost your authenticator

How to get back into Trade when you forget the administrator password or lose the authenticator for two-factor authentication. Exchange keys, combos and history are kept.

Find your case

CaseWhat to do
Lost authenticator, a browser is still signed inReplace or turn off two-factor authentication in that browser. You need the current password.
Lost authenticator, no browser signed inReset the password on the server. Two-factor authentication is turned off at the same time.
Forgotten passwordReset the password on the server.

Trade has no recovery codes and no SMS or email codes. Repeated wrong passwords never lock the account; they only lengthen the wait.

Replace or turn off in a signed-in browser

Open Sign-in & security in Settings. Under Two-factor authentication, do one of these:

  • Choose Replace authenticator, enter your current password, scan the code with the new authenticator and enter the code it shows. The old authenticator keeps working until you confirm, then stops working at once.

  • Choose Turn off and enter your current password. After that, the password alone signs you in.

Reset the password on the server

Sign in over SSH to the server where Trade is installed, as root or a user that can use sudo. Run:

bash
curl -fsSL https://api.zmarketlab.com/install.sh -o install.sh && sudo bash install.sh --reset-admin
  1. Choose a language when prompted.

  2. Enter the new password twice. Nothing is shown as you type.

  3. The terminal confirms the password is updated, shows your username and prints the address again.

The new password needs 8–256 characters, can’t be a common password and can’t contain control characters such as Tab.

After the reset

Result of the reset
PasswordReplaced by the one you entered. The username stays the same.
Two-factor authenticationOff. Turn it on again in Sign-in & security after you sign in.
Signed-in devicesAll signed out. Sign in again with the new password.
KeptExchange keys, combos, history and sign-in activity.

The reset doesn’t restart Trade, and running combos aren’t affected. It also works while Trade is stopped.

If the command fails

  • It says the version is too old and must be upgraded first: if you can sign in, update Trade and run the command again; if you can’t, contact support.

  • It says this server has no administrator account yet: open the address the terminal prints and create one.

  • It says the account record was damaged and cleared: open the address and create the administrator account again. Exchange keys and history are kept.

  • It says it couldn’t confirm the reset: use the command the terminal gives to check that the system is running, then run the reset again.
