Update Trade

Trade on your server fetches updates from ZML itself and installs them automatically by default. You can switch to manual and pick your own time within 7 days. This page explains where to set this up, how to schedule an update and what happens during an update.

How updates arrive

Trade installs only versions signed by ZML. When an update is available, the right end of the status bar at the bottom of Trade shows Will be automatically updated shortly or the install time. Open it to go to Updates on the Announcements and updates page.

You can also get there from Announcements and updates at the bottom of the sidebar: choose View all, then switch to Updates.

Updates shows the Current version, the version you can update to, the Install time and the Release notes. If you are several versions behind, Trade installs only the newest one and lists the notes of the versions in between together. Complete update history lists the notes of earlier versions.

Automatic and manual

On Updates, choose Update settings. Update mode has two options:

Update mode
AutomaticThe default. Trade installs a new version as soon as it is ready, without asking.
ManualYou decide when to install: choose Update now to install right away, or Schedule to pick a time. A new version that is still not installed 7 days after it arrived installs automatically.

With manual updates, the status bar at the bottom always shows the latest time the update installs automatically. The 7 days start when the first version you haven't installed reaches your Trade. If a newer version arrives in the meantime, the deadline stays the same and the newest version installs at that time.

Urgent fixes that ZML marks as required don't wait for you to pick a time. They install as soon as they are ready.

While Trade is stopped, nothing installs. The update installs when you start Trade or choose Install and start for that version.

During an update

  • The trading service restarts, and trading pauses briefly. With Manual, pick a time when a pause is acceptable.

  • Existing positions stay as they are. Trade doesn’t close positions for an update.

  • After the restart, each running combo trades from its parameters and doesn’t resume earlier orders. Any difference with the exchange shows up in reconciliation.

  • Trade backs up the database before it switches to the new version.

  • After the update, that status bar item goes away. To see what changed, open “Complete update history” on the “Updates” page.

If an update fails

Update status
Update failed; the current version is unaffected.Something failed before the new version started, and Trade keeps running the previous version. Contact support if it keeps happening.
Rolled back to the version prior to the updateTrade is running the previous version again. Contact support if it keeps happening.
Update failed; repair requiredThe update stopped partway and didn’t recover by itself. Your data and backups are kept. Contact support.

Running the install command again doesn’t update

On a server where Trade is already installed, the install command only checks the running system and keeps the current version and settings. Updates happen in Trade.

The server’s operating system and Docker aren’t updated with Trade. You maintain them yourself.
