Connect Gate

Trade uses the Gate unified account in Multi-currency margin mode to trade spot, cross margin and USDT perpetuals. This guide covers what to prepare on Gate and what to enter in Trade.

Prepare on Gate

  1. Open a Gate unified account and set its mode to Multi-currency margin.

  2. Create an API key. Gate uses an API key and secret only. No passphrase is needed.

  3. Enable Wallet, Account Information and Unified Account: Read-write, then read-write access for the markets you trade: Spot/Margin: Read-write for spot and margin, Perpetual Contract: Read-write for contracts. To transfer funds in Trade, also enable Wallet: Read-write; to transfer between the main account and sub-accounts with the main account’s API key, also enable Sub-accounts. Leave Withdrawal off.

  4. If the key has an IP allowlist, add your Trade server’s egress IP addresses to it. The Add account window lists them under Server egress IPs. Choose Copy all egress IPs.

A sub-account is a separate exchange account. Use the sub-account’s own API key and add it in Trade as its own account.

Account mode and position mode

The only account mode is Multi-currency margin mode: spot, cross margin and USDT perpetual contracts share the unified account, and the exchange handles borrowing and repayment. Classic spot mode, Single-currency margin mode and Portfolio margin mode can’t be saved. Trade doesn’t switch the account mode for you.

Perpetuals must use Two-way positions. Trade verifies this when you save and switches it where Gate allows. If Gate refuses because positions or orders are open, close them, then save again.

Contract leverage is set in the combo, and Trade applies it on the exchange.

Enter it in Trade

In Trade, open Accounts, choose Add account and select Gate. For the general steps, see Connect an exchange.

Common questions

“Account mode does not match the exchange”

The window shows the current mode on Gate. Change the unified account to Multi-currency margin mode on Gate, then save again.

Using Gate CrossEx

Gate CrossEx is a separate entry in the Add account window. It uses a Gate API key and secret. Enable cross-exchange trading on Gate first, and give the API key Cross-exchange: Read-write. See Connect Gate CrossEx.
